Instead of trying to create an entire expansion or block, I think I will concentrate on one aspect of gameplay. Specifically, I will deal with Poison as a win condition/mechanic. I personally find Poison to be a good idea since it presents a 3rd win condition (deck depletion and life depletion are the other two). I also agree with Mark Rosewater when he argues here that poison doesn't need to be only green and black. Looking back at previous poison cards, there seems to be two versions of the ability. Some of the creatures had to damage the opponent to deliver the poison counter while others had to be unblocked. I suggest that for simplicity sake (and as a nod to the fact that MTG has apparently code worded pretty much every ability), the ability to give poison counter when damage occurs will be called "Poison" and the ability to give poison counter when unblocked will be called "Toxic". Like Ramage and Busudio (sp?) there would be a number after that which says how many poision counters would be given. Without further adu, here are my card ideas so far (to be fair some are just updated versions of older cards).

while i do agree that it should not be just black and green, i dont really see many creature cards that have the posion ability, but i do not think you should be able to give yourself posion in order to regen but also i dont think any white creatures should be able to give posion, i mean they are supposed to be holy and posion is usually considered a dirty trick by most people if its not a natural thing like in the case of green cards where they are more like nature. Anyways, White should really only cure, and other then Assassins maybe only orges should get them or goblins since they are supposedly really rotten and gross so bacteria would really become the posion.... and as for blue, maybe merfolk and rootwater divers or such things as that and maybe sea monsters but they are really big usually so they dont normally need it.....

Morph: If you look closer, you will notice that none of the White creatures give poison counters. In fact, white is totally anti-poison. Please look at their cards again and you will see that. Red often trades long term for short term gain. Saving a creature now at the expense of a poison creature is an example of this. In fact, such a healing ability is so uncaracteristic of Red that it sort of demands such a strong penalty.

Cenerae: Those look like interesting creatures, thing is I was sort of thinking about these cards like they would be our addition to 9th edition. That unfortunatly means that I don't think block specific mechanics are doable. Not only that, but I don't want any of the colors to have more poison related cards than the other colors. Non-specific colored things don't count toward this, but I would like all of the colors to have the same number of cards dealing with poison. That means that if we come up with more cards, that we will need to either have the new cards replace current ones or make up more cards for the other colors.

Most current edition for Poison Expansion. At this point every color has 8 cards (including the non-color specific category). At this point I would like to discuss balance issues, the possiblity of replacing some cards on this list or expanding the list, possible art and possible flavor text. For example, discussing how specific cards work or don't work with the color wheel would be welcomed.

Remember, the ability to give a poison counter has been broken down into two code words. These reflect how the poison counters are delivered. The number after the code word is the number of poison counters delevered when that happens.
Toxic = Must be unblocked to give poison counter
Poison = Must damage to give poison counter

I was just trying to see if I was thinking along the correct lines at all, Sac. To be honest I've never used or seen poison used in a MTG game, though I don't doubt it's effectiveness.

My guess would be you want to keep the number of cards even for each card color? (and the non color, of course)

Remember coin flips usually dont get used, alot of plays will stay away from cards that require that such a thing

Cenerae: The number of the non-color cards aren't as important, but I would like all of the colors to have the same number of cards.

To be honest, poison isn't that effective right now. That's because of a few reasons. First the cards are really old and no doubt hard to find. They havn't printed poison cards since 5th edition. Second, there where never many poison cards and with the exception of the Serpent Generator Artifact all of the poison cards came in the form of creatures that where black or green. Third, Poison creatures tended to be overpriced making them too slow to use. A great example of this would be the Pit Scorpion. It cost the same amount as a Sabertooth Cobra, but it has less power and toughness and doesn't have the possiblity of giving a 2nd poison token. If you build a deck completely around the concept, then it might have a chance in casual.

JrEye: How about the Goblin Assassin be changed to this

Goblin Assassin (creature - goblin)
(R)
Toxic (1), when a player would be given a poison counter from Goblin Assassin that player may pay 2 to prevent the poison counter
1/1

Are there any other cards that you think need to be revised/looked at?

Sample reminder text

Poison x (Whenever an opponent recieves damage from this creature, that player recieves x poison counters. Whenever a player has 10 or more poison counters, that player loses the game.)

Toxic x (Whenever an opponent recieves combat damage from this creature, that player recieves x poison counters. Whenever a player has 10 or more poison counters, that player loses the game.)

Some of the cards give players poison too easy remember 10 counters makes them lose the game. Like Seductive Witch, it could become: Flying, Defender, Whenever a creature blocked by Seductive Witch is put into the graveyard from play, give that creature's controller 1 poison counter.

Remember with auras now in the text box you need to specify Enchant creature or what not

Any more feedback? I am sure that some more balancing is still needed. Pictures would be nice. Perhaps a couple of the cards could be given some flavor text. Hell, perhaps someone could remind me where the online card creation programs can be found.

I personally find Poison to be a good idea since it presents a 3rd win condition (deck depletion and life depletion are the other two).

There are several cards that allow you to win the game.

I'm thinking The Cheese Stands Alone would go well with Mortiphobia...
