Just wanna clear some things up. I do not support implementing any new races for next round since there has been no more than 4 posts of discussion until this thread. Balancing a brand new race will take a significant amount of review (no one plays this game as a profession) and zip will need time to code it.
I agree with Tundrahe about gremlins. And therefore I see that race as impossible to balance since the whole concept revolves around the whole no-spells idea.
In the development forum, I suggested north folk as a conversation starter. It's a race that lasted nearly an age and never needed any significant balance changes through its history. So, in theory, that should mean it requires very little balancing to compete in today's Elveron. It's a swarm race very similar to spirit and halfling.

I know, which is why put your Opposition here: Fergy wrote: (New) Races Strongly Favor: Somewhat Favor: Somewhat Oppose: Strongly Oppose: Quaffle , instead of under Dragons/Gremlins. After all, the only reason I knew Gremlins existed was because they were in a thread posted by you about possible races to add. quaffle wrote: I agree with Tundrahe about gremlins. He also stated that his objections were mute based on my proposed changes to the race. I do not see the immunity to mage ops as a core concept. I consider it auxiliary to the cheap 2/2 that train from workers and 6hr spec train time (although I think this should be for the dp spec and not the hybrid). I wish to see Gremlins as a good equivalent to Goblins.

Umm just wondering here, are we nominating races based only on the aspect if they are balance-able or not? Why not have an option to oppose any race change then, one could nominate having the same races if he considers them balanced right now.... I am not saying all people are nominating for that reason, but most people seem to be basing their reasoning on balancing factor.

@acetal You can make an opinion on any race for any reason you'd like. I'd also like to remind everyone this not an official vote on race replacements for next round. However, it's a great discussion starter. The dev team (maybe I should only speak for myself) would like to replace a few races next round to keep the game interesting for the elite player base. This thread is a nice discussion starter to hear the communities concerns and desires. The dev team favors decisions that are popular with the community.

Quote: You can make an opinion on any race for any reason you'd like I know, everyone does that naturally... But what i asked was, on what basis/reasoning does the dev team (or the op?) expects everyone to make their opinions on... From what i understood from your post, you (being from the dev team) based your nominations on the base of balancing issues too.

A race that is very hard (impossible) to balance will have a hard time attracting votes from the dev team i suppose. Other than that i think we all base our opinions mainly on how fun a race is, how "unique" it is and how well it fits into what can be considered needs of each alignment. ("Dorf: Great fun, pretty unique, provides good aling with speed") So basically balancing is a minor issue for most races, but a very big issue for those races where it poses a big challenge.

It may not be a "winner take all poll", but I will vote against adding any race that is not discussed in this thread. The purpose of this thread is to both to promote races that the player-base wants to play, and eliminate potential races that the player-base hates. This thread narrows the race search from insanely big, to doable. Acetal wrote: But what i asked was, on what basis/reasoning does the dev team (or the op?) expects everyone to make their opinions on... You can base your opinion on anything you want, everyone looks at the races differently. This is my short list: - Would I want to play this race?
- Would others want to play this race?
- Does this race add something to the alignment that the alignment is missing?
- Is the race balance-able?
- Do we have time to balance the race? If not, could the alignment deal handle a nerfed race for a couple of rounds until it is balanced?
- Does zip have time to code the race?
Must be 'yes' for each question for me to consider it for implement. Personally, I want to see the races become more different than they already are***. I'm trying to get other information be added to the guide such as: Starting resources, Starting Buildings, Starting Military, Starting Land, Spell Names, Spell Costs, and spell difficulty. These are game constants that can be manipulated to create different races, except it is unfair to manipulate the constant if the players can't look up the information in the guide. ***I like tollspry, I think they are a very novel race. Except they were a complete PITA to balance. I would have vote against adding that race, even though I'm glad they were added now. With that race, 1 little change (like train time length), can have huge impacts on how 'balanced' it is. For a race that extremely different, I would want them to be near perfectly balanced (slightly nerfed), before adding.

I strongly favour DWARFS. Won't be a big topic in the forum. Not been playing for some rounds, the "Who Were You" thread after a round, not much input. Maybe it time to for the Halflings and Plaguebearers to be introduce back.
