Well this is part of the problem right here if we assume that everyone that joins is going to be a Stubborn-as-shit inactive then why even have new people join make it a private game for those elite players that play every round. With players with that attitude im surprised i found a coulpe early that didn't mind taking in and helping a new player. My pack did it last round and the newb played with us this round he didn't do the best but he finished above others that had previous experience with the game. Oh well just trying to put a thought out there that might help gain more people to play against. Imo if you don't start to get new blood myself and others that think like me will probably start to go else where to find another game. I really like elveron but im not going to play forever if it stays in the current shape. The more players at top, bottom , and middle level is what will make the game better not shunning people who don't know everything, but whatever i guess seems to be the general attitude so be it. See this is the problem... you did not even listen to what I said. Honestly. Back in the day, I was as "newb-helping" as they come. I was trying to elucidate the problems as they exist - and rather than listen and try and think of potential fix to what I actually said, you tried to paint me as some asshole newb-hating elitist douche: "With players with that attitude im surprised i found a coulpe early that didn't mind taking in and helping a new player." It cannot be so all or nothing. If we cannot find a middle ground, we have no where to go.

A shout box like thing should be very useful for new players. Something which everyone can see and type in during a round. some little chit chat during the round among players won't hurt either... I've been playing for some time now and hardly know 10 players !

+10000. this is the single most important thing that would increase new player retention.

Yes, the ingame, real-time chat has been suggested countless of times during the years. While it's hard to polish and keep clean of illegal info sharing, it'd give newbies a good way for getting their questions answered quickly and easily.

Agree with the in-game chat.
Also would like to point out that Knicoal was one of the people that helped me out way back when I first started playing. I think i was playing elementals and she was the one who shared the formula for maximum trainable workers with me. So she hasn't always hated newbs just the ones that don't give a shit and won't listen. sadly that is a lot of them.

Seeing that elveron are using phpBB, then this could be an idea: "AJAX Chat" Asynchronous Java and XML. https://blueimp.net/ajax/ "Description AJAX Chat is a free and fully customizable open source web chat software implemented in JavaScript, PHP and MySQL. Sound support is implemented using Flash, Socket support using Flash on client-side and Ruby on server-side. AJAX Chat integrates nicely with phpBB, MyBB, PunBB, SMF, vBulletin and other PHP community software. "

i think an irc channel was the key with links from the game to irc rooms.... so you'd have global rooms and each pack could establish a room to talk in as well... =p

I agree with joehan about creating a section in global chat dedicated to newbies only.
As for myself i invite ppl to my realm usually and open up a question box in RC for anyone that's new in the game. Some times I get one who never asks a single question about game play, but I do leave a box open anyway. But I have had the pleasure of knowing that some I have invited have gone on to do well in the game.

And yeah, the ingame chat has come up repeatedly for age after age. I even suggested something like Nost Gam did before - as in, a third party integrated system rather than something zip would need to build form the ground up. And the issue with that stuff (from what I remember) has always been that since there is no way to police that space (info-sharing, alliance building, etc etc) then it cannot be instituted - no matter how easily it might be integrated. At least that was what I remember from the multiple times I suggested a game chat in various forms. The key to growing the game -- as I have said over and over for years now -- is community building. We need to find the best possible way for that to take place, without also being a massive burden on the players. P.S to Pcron -- umm yeah, but am I wrong about quaffles? The fact that he is now a respected member of the community should tell you how far we have fallen! Also. <3 to Quaffles. Happy birthday, champ! *ruffles quaffle's hair*

how bout a forum integrated in the game? i mean, if you're logged in the game and push the link to forum you should still be logged in and not have to register again for the forum. pp hate registering ... over and over again
