I saw that some of you were interested in playing Magic here on the forums in Bairdsy's thread. Rather than just sort of play randomly, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a league format, my buddies and I came up with a few years ago.
I've always played limited because it's cheaper, just as competitive and you actually get to use all the Magic cards. Your deck is different every time and even chafe cards are important, not to mention you get to play all sorts of color combinations.
This format is best played in a block of sets as you have the synergy of the set's abilities while maintaining the variety of limited. Basically, we'd purchase a box of the first set in a block (36 packs) along with a starter for each person. Then we'd each take 2 packs from the box and build a deck and sideboard with the starter we'd bought. We also did some trading if anyone wanted to do so, although once the round started there was NO more trading till the round had ended. Once we each had a deck built, we'd each play 3 games vs each opponent for a total of 9 games per person. This was one round. Each round had a "prize".
The prize for each round was 2 packs. Each pack was dealt with differently. The first pack was drafted amongst the 4 players while the second pack was split up in groups. Whoever had the worst record of the round would get first pick from the draft pack with the next pick going to the person who had the next worst record and so on till the pack was done. The second pack was split as follows: 1/2/4/8. Pick order was based on round record just like the draft pack with the worst record choosing first. The trick to the groups pack was that although the player with the worst record got to choose how many cards he wanted the pick order remained 1/2/4/8. So if that player decided he wanted 2 cards he would pick second and if he wanted 4 cards, he'd pick third and have to judge what 3 cards from the pack would be missing when his turn came around. Etc. I hope you get the idea.
After the prize packs were dealt with, trading could be done again. With the new influx of cards, decks were adjusted and another round was ready to begin. This process was repeated till the box was finished and then a box of the next set in the block was purchased and the league went on. Once that box was gone the third and final box of the last set of the block was purchased and the league continued. Whoever had the best record at the end of 41 rounds was the winner.
There's a bit of an alternative way to play the last box that my friends and I used to do. With our decks constantly evolving and sometimes changing we traded and gathered cards for all the colors. For the last 10 rounds (20 packs) of the last box we each had to play each of the 10 2-color combinations. No combination could be repeated more than once.
My buddies and I very much enjoyed this format. We liked the way our decks constantly changed and evolved. We liked the trading aspect of it too. I like being able to completely change my deck's colors for next round to completely throw off my opponents. If anyone's interested in this format then post and let me know.

I have run limited formats on these boards before and would be willing to do so again. Usually its just sealed deck but I would play if you ran the above format.

I was hoping some of the other Magic players would be interested. I can generate random packs of Magic with Magic Workshop. 5 people can play too. The groups pack can be broken down as follows: 1/2/3/4/5.

some questions:
1. Who is playing in this tournament?
2. What is the minimum deck size (40 I assume)?
3. Can we trade cards with other players?
4. Will matches be 1 game, or best of 3 with sideboards?

1) Mfisher3, Cenerae, you and myself
2) start with a 40 card deck and after 2 rounds we'll go up to 60
3) yes, if they want to
4) normally we'd all play each other 3 times but it'd be much too time consuming, as we have to use the forums, so I was thinking that I'd reduce it to 2 games vs each opponent, with sideboards.
With everyone playing everyone else twice that's 6 games per person a round. Are you guys ok with that? I don't just want 1 game vs each opponent a round as things like mana screw and mana flood or bombs have WAY more impact.

I might be interested in Mangara. I don't have great black or blue but I have a Dralnu or a Phyrexian Totem if you're interested.
Anyone got any non-basic lands they're looking to possibly trade? I didn't get a single one in my starting cards and I'd like a bit more flexibility with my land base.

My deck is ready...not too happy with it but I'll make do
I have a Ghostflame Sliver and 3 Locket of Yesterdays as tradeables, if anyone's interested in those. If so, looking for any red burn spells, otherwise any decent black, blue or green cards.

I forgot about your lack of net on the weekends. My bad.
Damnit. I can't find your Magic program. Can you post the link in here again, please? I can play as soon as the link is posted if anyone else wants to.
