well A get's 50% since he's boss and he accuses D and E of not doing little to help and gives them only 1 gem each so he can trick B and C into thinking that they got more than they would originally have had, which is why they will vote for it

This works better. C and E will vote for you, no matter what you give them since E won't get any more than one gem anyway and C won't get anything if you don't get to choose (B won't give anything to him since he would vote against it anyway). Easy.

Basically it works like this.

IF it was up to D's choice, E will not get anything

therefore IF it was up to C's choice: D would never vote for C, while E only need 1 gem to be convinced to vote for C.

therefore IF it was up to B's choice, C and E would never vote for B, D would get support with 1 gem

then back to the top.

A would only need to convince C and E, with 1 gem each.

Thats wrong though :p The reasoning is a lot more plausible if you ask first: what would B do and go on from there. Actually you could probably get 99 gems as well if you just give one to E.

Anyways, here's a riddle:

There are three persons (A,B and C) of which one lies all the time (liar), one tells the truth all the time (honest) and one lies occasionally (normal).

Here is what they say:

A: I'm normal
B: That is true
C: I'm not normal

What are A, B and C?

c is in the same boat.
b expacts nothing.
a is trying to gat every thing.

therefore. e and d should get jack. as they have the best chance of wallking away with the lot.
C is the one you need to perwade to vote for the plan. and 1 gem is a slap in the face. no he will insist on a lot more than 1 gem.
B will alos expact more than one gem.

so A chance of getting 98% of the 100 gems is a pipe dream.
